The first design phase has begun for “No.7” – the restaurant I am designing in the African country of Lesotho. There are a group of volunteers and Kick4Life employees eagerly waiting to build, so the first step for me is determining the theme and the layout.
Theme
Due to the non-profit nature of the restaurant, we need to keep costs to a minimum. We are therefore fortunate that recycled and re-used furniture is popular in high end eateries at the moment! With this in mind, our overall theme will be: High End Rustic. To give you an idea, here are two photos from my favourite New York restaurant The Meatball Shop. The industrial/wooden/antique design encapsulates this theme beautifully.
Layout
When deciding upon the concept for our layout, I drew up a list of guidelines:
- Must hold 40 seated patrons
- Seating must be flexible and mobile
- Must cater for groups of multiple sizes
- Costs must be kept to a minimum
The floorplan I created using Floorplanner, will allow us to cater for large groups, small groups and couples.
