7 Unique Ways to Decorate Using a Ladder

The humble ladder can provide a plethora of storage options in your home. Not only are they cheap, ladders are also easy to transport and extremely versatile. Here are some great ways to use a ladder in your home…

1. Display Shelf

Hang your ladder horizontally and use it as a display shelf for photo frames and decorative items. You may be restricted to displaying items that are quite narrow as the ladder shelf itself is typically quite narrow.

2. Drying Rack

If you are pushed for space in your laundry, try attaching a ladder to the roof with chain and using it as a drying rack. Not only does this clear up floor space, it’s much more attractive than a wire clothes horse. For bonus points, paint the ladder a bright colour to add some style to your laundry (anything to make washing more cheerful right!?)

3.Towel Rack

If you’ve ever had to pay for fittings in your bathroom, you will know how expensive towel racks can be! So save yourself some pennies and use a ladder to hang your towels on. Melanie used a bamboo ladder in the bathroom of her Merbau House and it really added unique flair to her modern bathroom.

4. Hanging Pots and Pans

Hanging a ladder from the kitchen ceiling is a great way to store pots and pans. It makes great use of the vertical space above your benches and clears space in your already over-cramped cupboards. Hang some S-shaped hooks from the ladder rungs – most utensils and pots come with handles that have a hole designed to be hung from a hook.

5. Bedside Storage

A not so practical, but fun and stylish option for a bedside table. Think of all the things you keep next to your bed that can be hung up – glasses, books, necklaces, scarves, hats, eye-mask, the list goes on. Just don’t ask me how to balance a glass of water on a ladder rung!

6. Glassware Display

Ladders are becoming so popular in decorating, that many stores are designing them specifically for storage in the home. With flat, shelf-like rungs, ladders can act as a display cabinet for wine glasses, vases, wine bottles and candles.

7. Garden Display

Wooden ladders are hardy, so they are a great display piece for outdoors. Place a flat board across an A-frame ladder for extra shelving for your plants and garden pots. Then when you host BBQs, use the ladder to display all your outdoor crockery and use it to serve your salads and condiments from!
