As you may have guessed from my ealier posts, we have finally moved into our own house! It took 10 months, but we are IN!
Now while we have moved in, the house is not quite finished. There are still lots of little bits and bobs we need to complete. But for the most part, it is read to live in.
The first room I wanted to set up properly was our bedroom. Having an 8 month old baby means sleep is paramount. I wanted to make sure both Matt and I were sleeping well, along with our little boy, Jack. We still don’t have carpet in the downstairs bedrooms as we need to save up some funds, but we do have carpet in our upstairs bedroom. Which means for the time being Jack’s cot is in our walk-in-wardrobe. How very Harry Potter of him.
Let me share a few happy snaps showing how the bedroom looks so far. As I said, there is more to do but it’s a start…
Here is our lovely sun-drenched verandah off the main bedroom. A coat of paint and the old french doors came up a treat!
I wanted a door-handle that suited the period of the french doors, so I went to Chippendale Restoration and picked out this little gem. Actually, not so little. Quite big really. Love it.
The part of our bedroom I love the most is the ceiling. Everything about it makes me so happy. The high west-facing windows that let in the afternoon sun, the simple but striking pendant light, the recycled timber beam and the raked ceiling. Lying in bed starting up at it all makes me grin like a silly kid.
I have spent the past few weeks unpacking boxes that have been in storage for 5 years, and sadly a lot of our bedding was either moldy or discoloured. Remember in my Bathroom Reveal post I mentioned I had gone to Manchester Warehouse to buy towels? Well, I MAY have also bought some bed linen while I was at it.
The first thing I chose was this heavenly Chiara Quilt Cover. The lady in the store taught me a trick too – buy a king-size quilt cover for a queen-size bed. The larger sized quilt makes the whole bed look and feel more luxurious. I couldn’t agree more.
The wall colour in the bedroom is a light grey, it’s called “Snow Season” by Dulux. I think it compliments the blue/grey of the carpet really nicely.
I also bought new sheets! Now I am the first to freely admit that in the past I have scrimped on the thread count. I thought it was a bit of a scam. In my mind higher thread count simply meant higher price. But then I bought these beauties…
That’s right. 700 thread count. O.M.G!! I am a total convert to high thread count sheets after buying these. Every night I sleep between these sheets I feel like I am in a luxury resort… they feel THAT good.
The heavy, glass lamp-stands were my first “grown-up” purchase I ever made. I bought them just after Matt and I got engaged. I think I was trying to prove to that “Yes, I am old enough to get married… I mean, I own nice lamp-stands for goodness sake!” Luckily I still like them. However the shades could do with an update.
Oh and that sweet little posey of flowers came from my beautiful friend Johanna. Thanks Jojo!
I also bought these lovely European Pillows – those big square ones. They make the bed look all fancy like.
And although I love the bedside tables, we are actually just borrowing them for a few months from my folks. I think I will end up buying something a little more rustic to tie in with the timber beam.
Hope everyone is soaking up this gorgeous spring weather!
