Is there a sweeter gift than hand picked flowers? I think not. Since moving back to Australia, my hubby and I have been living with my parents while we begin renovations on our house. They live on 5 acres in the rural suburb of Dural, which is quite a change from the concrete jungles of New York. Think paddocks, horses, rabbits and flowers! My parents are wonderful gardeners, so the expanse of gardens is heavenly.
It’s funny, I grew up on the property since the age of 4, and I took these lush gardens for granted my entire life… until my return from the big city. So when it came time to take a friend a hostess gift – I took to the garden!
Lavender is my mother’s favourite scent. When my mum was growing up, my grandfather used to manage a cosmetics company. My mum would often visit him in the warehouse after school and she says she could smell the scent of lavender wafting from the warehouse before she even opened the door. My grandpa passed away nearly 30 years ago, so lavender is always a beautiful reminder of him.
Even though there are so many varieties of fancy-pants gift wrap available these days, I always prefer the simple and classic brown paper for wrapping flowers… and gifts for that matter. The ribbon can always add a pop of colour to your arrangement.
Aren’t they just soooo purty!?
Once we have finished renovating our home, I plan to fill our garden with lavender – for both the sweet smell and as a tribute to my Grandpa.
Why not bring some colour into a friend’s world today and pick them some fresh flowers from your garden:)
