Well, it has been a hectic week! But I finally have time for a blog post… and this one is all about out downstairs renovation floor plans!
So as to not bombard you, this post will just show you what we are doing downstairs. We are also building another story on top, but that’s for the next post. If you missed my first blog post about our existing floor plans, you can see that here:
Our Sydney Renovation – The Background.
Some basic information about our downstairs renovation floor plans:
- We are not touching the front half of the house. The front two bedrooms will remain the same, as will the hallway.
- The big changes will start at the kitchen and go through to the back of the house.
- We are extending the back living room – out to the side and out into the backyard.
If you take a look at the floor plan below, you will see that the purple striped area is the existing house, and the pink striped area is the extension. As you will see, we will:
- Push the side of the house out to our side boundary, giving us an extra 910mm of width to our very skinny house!
- We will also extend the back room out into the backyard a further 1720mm.

Next up… this is a more detailed floor plan. The basic idea is to:
- Rip out the existing kitchen, and in its place, build a bathroom and a laundry.
- Rip out the existing bathroom and build a kitchen in its place.
- The kitchen will therefore be part of the large open living area at the back. Much better for entertaining!

For those with a keen eye for detail, you will see the staircase on the left side of the living room, skylights over the living room for extra light, a terrace coming off the back of the living room and bi-fold doors opening out onto the terrace.
Coming up next – a post all about our upstairs area!
(I would be interested to know if you can all understand the plans, or if you have any questions about them? If so, fire away!)
