So I don’t iron. Ever. That job falls to the husband. (For the sake of this post, we will call him Spartacus). Apparently my ironing skills leave a little to be desired. It became apparent early on in our marriage, when I thought I was doing something nice for Spartacus by ironing his shirt. I was wrong. He was appalled by my efforts. Something to do with his school days as a Cadet and the very high standards set by his Corporal.
But where I fail at ironing, Spartacus fails at pack-up. Gone are the days of having a spare room where the iron board can happily exist in its natural state. Our small NYC apartment requires the ironing board to be stored in a hallway cupboard… and that rarely happens. Spartacus has more important concerns – like Gladiator Tournaments.
While I was on vacation last week, I discovered a smart storage solution in my hotel room. Upon my return I headed straight to the hardware store and paid $9.95 for one of these.
Storage for Your Ironing Board and Iron
Clever storage for your ironing board and iron! It came with all the necessary hardware…
Four screws…
And four anchors to hold the screws in the wall.
This corner was the perfect spot.
All I needed was an electric drill… which I borrowed from some friends 18 months ago. Oops!
It was really basic to install. I used a pencil to mark the wall where the screws needed to go.
I think it looks kinda cute! It’s obviously not ideal to have your ironing board on display in your living room, but it sure beats it standing in the middle of the room.
If you have a big enough cupboard, you could hang the rack in there too. That would be ideal. It’s kinda depressing how excited I am about an ironing board rack. Hopefully it will decrease the number of arguments over who puts the ironing board away:)
