If you went flea market shopping with me, this is how the day would play out…
We would google the biggest and best flea market nearby, then head on over in our convertible Mercedes. With the roof down. Of course.
The first treasures we spot are these vintage maps dating back to the 1960s. We search through them all, desperately trying to find one that has some sentimental value. But alas we cannot. I’m sure Toronto was lovely in 1964, but I have never been, so don’t really have an excuse to buy it. We vow, however to one day hang a vintage map in our respective homes – of somewhere we have actually been.
Next, we spy some gorgeous silverware. We marvel at how it never goes out of style, and conclude that it is one of the best items to buy at a flea market. It is always so much cheaper than buying it new, and with a bit of spit and polish, comes up sparkling new!
I take some photos of vintage watches for the hubby, as he is a watch collector and LOVES restoring them.
Our tummies start rumbling. So to ward of any threat of H-ANGER, we head straight for the food truck and fill our bellies with a healthy treat. Donuts.
After our appetite is satisfied, we walk past a wall full of cheap, second-hand bags…
… and I start telling you about my unreasonable and one-sided love affair I am having with this Michael Kors bag…
But since it costs $298 I can’t justify buying it. Then I spot this little guy…
We discuss how it is a similar shape, similar material and with a smart, colourful scarf wrapped around the handle, would be a much cheaper substitute. SOLD! I fork out $4 and now have my own Michael Kors beach bag… sort of.
After a successful purchase, we decide to drive straight to the beach and try out my fancy new beach bag. Doesn’t he look pretty with his blue scarf? And I saved $294 bucks!
What do you think of flea markets – do you love them or loathe them?
