Hi everyone!
Sorry I’ve been off the radar these past 2 weeks, I’ve been busy rehearsing for my new musical Daddy Long Legs. We have now opened and I’m finally back into a routine. I love this show sooo much, and now I have my days free to blog!
I’ve moved to Florida for 2 months, which means I am living in a little weatherboard cottage a few miles from the beach… it’s a hard life. However, with a new home comes some logistical challenges. There doesn’t seem to be a convenient recycling system here, which got me thinking… how can I create a functional garbage system in my little house, while still keeping my kitchen looking nice?
So I did some research and came up with these 5 solutions:
1. Sesame Street Style
Who says garbage storage needs to be ugly? I love these black iconic garbage cans, they have a retro feel to them and can be painted any colour you like. I love this gloss black finish. If you get two, one can be for regular rubbish and the other for recycling.
2. Wicker Baskets
Storing baskets underneath a bench or on a low shelf is a good way to keep recycling out of one’s eye-line. Be sure to line the baskets with waterproof lining first to avoid messy spills.
3. Car Bin
For the first time in 3 YEARS I have a car! I feel like a giddy teenager tasting freedom for the first time. I’ve seen this idea before and though it was awesome, so am planning to pick up a cereal container the next time I hit up the grocery store.
4. Matching Bins
I’m ashamed to admit that we have been using an ugly cardboard box to store our recycling. But since seeing this picture, I’m on the hunt for 3 pretty matching bins! One for general rubbish, one for paper/cardboard and the other for bottles/plastics. Having a matching set of bins somehow makes them look a whole lot more loveable!
5. Garbage Station
Recycling can be annoying at times, but if you have a good set-up, it can be a lot easier to maintain. If you have wall space in your garage or even room in your laundry, mounting bins on the wall and investing in some wire baskets can simplify the whole process and keep things in order.
Hope this has inspired you to overhaul your reclcying and rubbish system, it’s inspired me!
Have a lovely week friends!
