It seems to be the season for baby showers! This past weekend, some friends and I hosted one for our lovely friend Susie, who is expecting a little boy in March. And of course, I put my hand up for a DIY memo board!
We wanted a classy high tea for our British-born friend, and that meant no corny games! Instead, we decided to ask friends of Susie to write a little piece of advice, or a wish for the Mum-To-Be on pretty cards and display them on a memo board that Susie could hang in the baby room.
Susie’s colour scheme for the baby room is yellow and I happen to know that the Dad-To-Be is a HUGE soccer fan… so I headed for my local craft store!
Materials for your DIY Memo Board
- Corkboard: $8.99
- Yellow Ribbon: $0.50
- Soccer Pins: $2.99
- Nails: $1.59
- Burlap $2.99
TOTAL: $17.06
In the end, I didn’t need the super glue, or the letter tags… I’ll show you why later!
First step was to attach the cream burlap to the board. I had read on Pinterest that this can be done by hammering 2-joined staples into the frame. While this did work, it was a pain and I wouldn’t recommend using staples for your DIY memo board.
After hammering my own finger too many times, I went to the hardware store and bought these really short metal nails, they were awesome!
After attaching the burlap all along the edge of the frame, I then cut two sections of yellow ribbon to attach diagonally across the board.
I left a little extra ribbon to fold over the corner and nail into place.
Before cutting the ribbon, I laid it all out on the diagonal to get the pattern right. I wanted to put a little soccer ball pin at every intersection. I only had 12 pins so I knew I had to have no more than 12 intersections for my DIY memo board.
I cut the ribbon to the correct lengths and attached the edges to the back of the frame using the hammer and nails. The soccer ball pins just pushed through the ribbon and into the cork at each intersection.
Next, I attached yellow ribbon along the edge of the entire memo board. I just hammered nails two inches apart to attach.
My friend Emma stamped blank cards with a sweet teapot stamp… they looked lovely and matched our British High Tea theme! (Hence no need for my brown tags).
We asked guests to write their little messages on the cards and slip under the ribbon.
Well, my DIY memo board turned out so well and Susie loved it!

P.S I started fiddling around with layering my logo on top of each photograph…. what do you think?
