I grew up on five acres in Sydney, where we had horses in the paddocks and the best climbing tree in the world right in our backyard! As a result, I need to get outdoors every day and breathe fresh air. However living in Manhattan, in the middle of winter, makes this a liiiiitle difficult. The last couple of weeks have seen temperatures in New York drop to below 0 degrees Celsius… in the middle of the day! This means I haven’t been able to get outdoors often enough and I am starting to go stir-crazy.
So when two of my gorgeous girlfriends called and asked if I wanted to go on a day trip, I was in! When one hasn’t owned a car for three years, a car trip is as good as a holiday! Plus I got to stay warm while seeing trees – hoorah! We drove an hour north of Manhattan to a small town in Connecticut called Greenwich. The town is named after Greenwich in London and was recently listed as having the wealthiest residents per capita in the USA… fancy pants.
On a random note, BOTH my car trip girlies are heavily pregnant and at one point we thought one of them may have been going into labour! It turned out to be a false alarm, but I was totally ready for my Carrie Bradshaw/Charlotte York delivery room scene.
Okay, enough shenanigans, look how gorgeous this place is…
Do you think the local council would notice if I stole their town clock and planted it in my imaginary backyard?
Since Greenwich residents are the wealthiest in the US, I thought it best to act like one myself. So I took it upon myself to pretend money was no object, and I took sneaky snaps of my most coveted items from all the gorgeous stores we visited.
I love these vintage, wooden boot-fillers. I think they would look lovely by the front door and have the added benefit of keeping the shape of your boots.
I am a sucker for anything french, and this large, glass bottle fits the bill. It’s big enough to be a floor ornament and would look lovely with some VERY long-stemmed flowers inside of it. Sunflowers perhaps?
These carts-turned-coffee-tables are in danger of becoming too common, but I don’t care because I still love them! I also love the faded and worn-out rug underneath it.
Do you sometimes wish you could have a wedding-gift-registry do over? I would put this set of pretty china-wear on the top of my list.
I know it’s quite masculine, but I just love this steel trunk. The leather straps and metal studs provide the perfect details. I’d love one as a side table in my living room, with a library lamp atop it.
A friend of mine from book-club has one of these and I just love them! A cute little cheese knife, with chalk to write the type of cheese on the slate plate. The perfect gift.
Driving home after a lovely lunch, some window shopping and a few too many hot chocolates, I couldn’t help but count my blessings as I looked out the window. The snow-covered trees and hills were too beautiful to catch in a photo… but I tried:)
I hope you all had a lovely weekend, wherever you happen to be in the world!
