I have a confession to make. Last Christmas I earned the name Humbug. Some friends of mine even forced me to write it in the snow on Christmas Eve when I was dragged outside for a snowball fight in my PJ’s. (See evidence below).
This year, a little elf must have sprinkled some magic dust over me in my sleep! I I am finally getting swept up in the magic of the Christmas season. (I am even listening to Michael Bublé’s Christmas album). WHAT!?!
So on our recent trip to New Jersey, we stopped in at a beautiful Christmas wonderland – Peddler’s Village. It was like walking straight into Santa’s Kingdom! Every store and tree was lit up, pilgrims were singing carols, marshmallows were being roasted and hot apple cider was a-plenty! It was impossible not to get into the spirit of things – particularly being with my friend Susie who I swear is actually Mrs Clause.
Since moving to New York, we have never bought a Christmas tree (I told you, Humbug). But this year was going to be different! We walked a few blocks south to the Christmas tree stand and picked out a 5-foot tree, then carried our beauty home.
Before buying our tree, I scrolled through Pinterest to find inspiration for my tree decorations and decided two things:
- I like trees that have unique ornaments, rather than 20 baubles that all look the same.
- I love silver and gold ornaments.
At Peddler’s Market I bought these two little bird ornaments – my first tree ornaments! I love the subtle sparkle and delicacy of each one. They cost $5 each. Upon returning to NYC, I visited one of my favourite stores – Restoration Hardware. I had a gift voucher from my Mother-in-law so I bought these 3 jeweled snowflakes for $6 each.
When it come to tree decorations, I’ve decided to collect them along the way, rather than going to K-Mart and buying a whole lot in bulk. My tree will therefore look a little bare this year, but at least I will love every one of my decorations!
What kind of tree decorations do you love?
