For those who didn’t have the pleasure of laughing at my DIY disaster, you can read all about it here. For those that did, you will be pleased to hear that it has been resolved!
One of the pitfalls of living in NYC is that no one has a car – including me. This means buying used furniture can be very difficult as delivery is not an option. Luckily for me, we live a block from a great store which sells upmarket second-hand furniture. I drop into the store once a week and recently was lucky enough to spy this gorgeous dresser. It was only $200 so I snapped it up!
Unfortunately this piece has no markings on it to tell me when it was made, but it is constructed from solid wood – a nice change from that horrible particle board we are so used to with Ikea furniture these days. I absolutely adore the detail in this piece, particularly the little turned legs and the decorative edgings.
Often when you see a wooden dresser of this vintage, it typically has handles the same colour as the dresser. I love that these handles have been stained a darker colour.
Aren’t these little locks just the sweetest!? Unfortunately it didn’t come with a key, but I don’t care, I just love the pretty shape. Plus the brass adds a different texture to the piece.
When I first saw this piece, my husband asked if I was going to milk-paint it. Although I love painting, I think one of the greatest skills of DIY is knowing when to leave something alone. The wood is in beautiful condition and I think all the scratches and bumps make it looks even better!
So I will take a page out of Mr Darcy’s book and say to my dresser – “I like you very much. Just as you are.”
