I used to think my father was the hardest person in the world to buy for. Then I got married. My father-in-law is officially the HARDEST person in the world to buy for!
So when his 60th Birthday was approaching, I was panicking. After several failed attempts to find an awesome gift, I took to Pinterest to see if I could find some inspiration – and found it! Luckily my F-I-L is a sentimental, family man so a walk down memory lane was something I knew he’d appreciate. Here’s what my hubby and I did…
STEP ONE: We sent an email to friends, cousins, aunts and uncles asking each of them to email us back a one sentence memory they had of Mark.
STEP TWO: We bought a mason jar, brown packing paper, string and a sharpie.
STEP THREE: We cut the brown paper into strips, then wrote out one memory on each strip until we had the magic number of memories – 60!
STEP FOUR: We cut the string into 15cm lengths, rolled up each paper strip and tied the string around it. They end up looking like little scrolls!
STEP FIVE: Fill the mason jar with memory scrolls and hand it on over! We took turns handing the jar around the table, each of us reading a memory and asking Mark to guess who wrote it. It was a beautiful evening, hearing about Mark’s life through the eyes of his friends and family members!
Happy Birthday to the greatest Father-in-Law in the world!
