If you are anything like me, walking into antique stores can be overwhelming! So much stuff, so much dust! But like all home furnishings, antiques go through trends. This is good news as it means we can walk into antique stores with a purpose… making our visit a little less daunting. So here are 5 antiques to keep an eye out for that will look grand in your home.
1. Books
Tattered and torn, or even missing a cover, old books add a touch of class and history to a room. Prop them up between a pair of book ends or stack a few on a side-table with a vase of flowers atop.
2. Typewriter
Vintage typewriters are not only beautiful pieces of machinery, they conjure up romantic notions of story telling in the days of old. Jane Austin anyone?
3. Suitcases
A beautiful way to re-purpose old suitcases is to stack two or three on top of each other to create a side-table. Storage for your out-of-season clothes is an added bonus!
4. Electric Fan
I absolutely love a touch of industrial-chic and a vintage fan is the perfect little addition! It doesn’t take up too much space and if you’re lucky – you can find the perfect coloured fan for your room.
5. Globe
The ultimate man-tique. The world globe adds a touch of worldly charm to any room – not to mention a handy reference when playing Trivial Pursuit!
So keep your eyes peeled the next time you walk into an antique store!
