Okay, so the walls are painted, the floor is laid, the shelves are hung and the desk is mounted. Now comes the easiest part of all – the finishing touches!
Blackboard
On top of a quiet reading/studying room for residents, I expect the Wellness Library will work as a meeting room also. I therefore wanted some kind of notice board in the space. And wouldn’t you know it, I found a half-full tin of blackboard paint in the garbage room of our building! I used an angled paintbrush to apply and left the edges rough. I tied a piece of chalk to a length of ribbon and attached it to a screw in the wall for convenience.
Seating Bench
Remember when I said it’s cheaper to make your own shelves rather than buy them from Ikea? Apparently this doesn’t apply to bench seats! The ANGSO Bench Seat only cost $80 and was very easy to assemble. I chose a white seat to brighten the room up a little since the walls and the shelving are all quite dark.
Pillows
I wanted to buy 5 throw cushions to make the bench seat comfy, but also to add a sense of home and warmth to the room. I bought 2 feature cushions from Century 21 for $11 each… I went with busy designs but neutrals colours so as not to overwhelm. I then bought 3 plain cushions from Home Dept for $10 each – 2 red and cream striped cushions and one plain blue cushion.
