This post comes from Melanie in Sydney. Melanie is a Mum of 3 kids, home-renovator and runs a Real Estate agency in North Sydney with her husband.
I started with one baby and one small box of toys, however as he grew and the number of children grew, the toys seemed to take over the home! So what are the best ways to store kids toys? Here are a few ideas…
Ikea Expedit
Personally, I love Ikea Expedit shelving and have 3 of these storage units in my house. The boxes are a good size – so you don’t lose toys at the bottom of them forever! If you like to organize the toys, you can sort them into categories such as cars, trains, barbie, dress up clothes etc. My 6 year old even labelled the boxes! There are several boxes and baskets to choose from to suit your decor. You can also use a couple of cubbies as book shelves, or buy some drawers or a cupboard door to hide things like craft supplies.
Hip Kids Stackable Toy Box
These Stackable Toy Boxes from Hip Kids are great! The toys can be packed away nice and neatly, but are still accessible for kids (which means they are more likely to go and play with them!) They come in pale blue, white, red and pink and can be bought individually, or in twos, fours or sixes as seen here.
Lime Tree Kids PO Box
This PO Box is so funky! It comes in red, black, white and green and you have the choice of 2, 3 or 4 drawers. Check out Lime Tree Kids website as they have a lot of other cute storage options as well.
Window Seat Storage
This window box not only looks beautiful, it is functional as well. This could be a great DIY project! Toys can be stored under the seat in drawers, baskets or even under a lid on hinges .
Toy Box
You can’t go past the good old toy box for storing large items like teddies and soccer balls. I think this classic white timber toy box from Banana Baby is perfect. It could be used in a baby’s room, girl’s room, boy’s room or living room as your needs change.
Have fun organising, and don’t forget to rotate your kids toys in and out of storage. Put some up in the cupboard for a while and then pull them out in a month’s time. They will think it is Christmas all over again!
