I am a big believer that everybody needs a home office. Not just those who run a business from home, EVERYONE! Organization is integral to running a smooth household. Plus, staying on top of your bills and paperwork can save you hundreds of dollars a year in late fees and over-due credit card statements! So I have searched for 5 unique home office systems to cater for every home type.
1. Vertical Home Office
This is the perfect solution for someone who lives in a very small apartment with some vacant vertical space. A simple shelving unit with adjustable shelves will allow you to store your computer, files and books in the one place. A brightly coloured wall, decorative storage boxes and a vase of flowers will brighten up this simple home office.
2. Filing Trunk
If you don’t want your home office to be on display, this could be the right option for you. Fitting a storage trunk, toy chest or blanket box with a hanging file frame you can hide all your files away, while still having them easily accessible. I love the idea of fitting the inside of the lid with a cork board too! Martha Stewart made this fabulous 5 minute video on how to fit out your storage box with a filing frame.
3. Built-In-Wardrobe Office
If you are lucky enough to have a spare wardrobe (!) in your home, this is a great solution for those who want a sit down space and a full desk. It is also a nice way to hide all of your paperwork and office supplies. Add a touch of the dramatic by lining the inside of your wardrobe with bold wallpaper or bright coloured paint!
4. Wall Office
If you don’t have room for a desk, but you have some vacant wall space, a wall office is a great way to keep all your invitations, paperwork and weekly activities in your line of sight. Cockboards, whiteboards, shelving and storage sleeves for incoming mail are a few useful items to include in your wall office.
5. Cupboard Office
If you don’t have the need for a desk, but you have a couple of spare cupboards in your home, a cupboard office is a great storage solution for all your paperwork and office supplies. Be sure to put some thought into what items you have to store before designing your shelving and drawer system. Wardrobe companies, Ikea and Howards Storage World will be good starting points for designing your cupboard storage system.
