This post comes from Melanie in Sydney. Melanie is a Mum of 3 kids, home-renovator and runs a Real Estate agency in North Sydney with her husband.
Now this is fun! I have spent hours on the net looking for the perfect items for my daughter’s bedroom – there is so much out there! When decorating any child’s room it helps to start with a colour and a theme in mind. My starting point was the green curtains my Mum had made, so I decided on pink and green for the colours and Babushka dolls for the theme.
Doona Cover
The doona cover is by Jiggle and Giggle, I bought it online at izzz.com.au. They also have a lot of matching accessories – I think I will buy a couple more to really complete the room.

Pictures
I found a great store on Etsy called Picture Merchants which sells pictures of Babushka dolls. They have thousands of images to choose from which only cost a few dollars each. Picture Merchants will even customise the size and email them to you, so you can buy them wherever you are in the world. I then printed the pictures at Officeworks and bought a few $4 frames from K-mart.
If you haven’t yet discovered Etsy, it is worth a look. It is a huge online market where individual sellers advertise their handmade and vintage wares. I have also just discovered Made it, which is an Australian version.
Beds
I bought the bed online from Babyexpress, it is a “Matt” bed by Treehouse. After I had ordered the bed, Babyexpress called me to let me know that Treehouse had the same bed on sale for less so they would refund the difference – extremely impressed! I bought the same bed for my son in case they ever need to share a room, it obviously looks completely different in his blue nautical room. I decided to buy the matching trundle bed too, for when friends sleep over.
Beverly, one of our readers, loves Incy Interior’s beds and other furniture for children’s rooms. Their Driftwood range is perfect, for the Beach House look and their Iron Bed pictured is the latest vintage look for girl’s room.
Bunting or Banners
Bunting or banners are very popular at the moment. One of our followers, Amanda, recommended Oobi’s red dot bunting. Made it have a huge range of patterned and coloured bunting to suit your style, in fact I have just seen one for my daughter’s room!
Wall Stickers
Kate loves My First Room, and so do I, they have some beautiful wall stickers as well as everything else you need to create a magical room for your little girl.

Happy decorating!
– Melanie
