Too often we think of a staircase as a hazard – a big hunk of space taken up in house with the sole purpose of getting up to the next level. However a staircase can be a really beautiful piece of architecture and should be shown in its best light! Here are some fantastic examples to inspire you to make-over your own staircase.
Carpet Runner
This simple white staircase is completely transformed by the rainbow carpet runner. By painting the ceiling, floor and walls white, the staircase and its colourful addition becomes the feature of the room.
Floating Floorboard Illusion
A coat of paint can work wonders on a staircase. Painting the stop of each step black while keeping the base of the steps white, can create the illusion of a floating-staircase. For the more daring – paint the top of each step a bright colour for a dramatic affect.
3-Tone Paint
This beach-themed staircase is just beautiful. The trick is to chose 3 complimenting colours that are not too over-bearing. The clever use of nautical rope as a banister ties it all into the beach-side theme.
Vintage Signs
I adore this branded, vintage staircase. This particular one was hand-painted! For all those artistically-gifted types, you can read all about the tutorial at Funky Junk Interiors.
