We have had our first request (applause)! It has come from our dear friend Kate who asked for some inspiration and ideas on how to store jewellery.
If you are anything like me, you would rather spend money on the jewellery itself, rather than the storage. So this blog is all about using everyday items to display your precious gems. Hopefully it will inspire you to pull all your jewels out of the bottom of your handbag, coin-pouch, make-up case, pockets etc. and create a lovely place for them in your home. Even though we aren’t wearing it, doesn’t mean we can’t show it off. After all, jewellery is made to be admired!
Vintage Frame
Find a pretty, wooden photo frame. It can be small, large, vintage or modern depending on your taste. Go to Lindcraft or Spotlight and buy a length of lace that is able to cross your frame several times. Cut the lace into strips that will stretch across the width of your frame. Hammer thumb-tacks through the lace and into the frame, making sure the tacks line up. This is great for hanging earrings or draping necklaces over each strip.
Tree Branch
Go out into your garden (or nearest park) and find a small branch that is no longer than 30cm. Make sure it has several small branches coming off it – the more the better! Depending on your taste, leave it unpainted for that rustic, natural look or spray paint it whatever colour fits with your room! Great for hanging long necklaces and draping chain bracelets.
Glass Bottles
Glass bottles of all shapes and sizes are e a great option for storing thick and thin bracelets. They are also a good for storing beaded necklaces as they can be wrapped around the bottle neck several times. I love this wooden box the bottles are stored in as it creates an entire piece of art for the wall. However, bottles can look just as gorgeous arranged on a dressing table or on bathroom vanity.
Tea Cups and Saucers
Raid your kitchen cupboard for your best tea cups and saucers (let’s be honest, how often to really use them?) You can either place them on top of your dresser, or in a drawer. Be sure to put down a layer of felt underneath so the cups don’t slide when you open the drawer. Earrings can be hung over the side of the teacups. Necklaces, bracelets and hair elastics can be placed on the saucers.
Cake Platters
Another useful kitchen item that can be transferred for jewellery storage! I think this just looks so pretty, but it is more for those gals that love all their jewels bundled up together. I mean, who doesn’t love spending 10 minutes undoing knots in their chains and trying to locate that other damn earring!
