There are several trends emerging in New York when it comes to picture frames, so many in fact that it requires a few blogs to talk about them! Like most decor trends, they begin in luxury hotels, restaurants and in the pages of glossy magazines. However unlike most high-end decor trends, these ones are actually affordable and not too over-the-top for your home. Straight from the flashy hotels and restaurants of Manhattan, here is Part 1 of the most popular ways to display your picture frames:
1. Leaning Frames
If you are the type of person who likes to rotate your photos from time to time, or if you are not at all handy with a hammer – this is a great option for you. Walls are being shunned these days, as frames are happy to just lean against them. It will give your home a casual look, while being stylish at the same time. Be sure to overlap frames of different sizes. Though try and find either a colour, texture or print scheme to adhere to. Lean them on top of a fireplace, window sill, cabinet or a floating shelf. Voila!
2. Floating Shelves
The US has a great selection of floating shelves, some decorative, some plain. Pottery Barn, Ikea and West Elm are great for both options for our American readers. For the Aussies, the range is a little more limited, but Ikea have a great selection here. If you are up for a DIY project, making your own decorative shelf is simple and cheap! Any hardware store will be able to supply you with a cutting from a skirting board or cornice. Then you can either varnish it or adopt the rustic, weathered look.
