“Anyhow, Gatsby gives large parties…and I like large parties. They’re so intimate. At small parties there isn’t any privacy.” Jordan Baker. “The Great Gatsby”.
If one can’t sit on a picnic rug, in a park, gazing at the fireworks coming from the Sydney Harbour Bridge… one must find an alternative option for New Years Eve. So on a freezing cold night in NYC, my husband and I jumped on the subway and headed downtown to our friends’ apartment for a Great Gatsby-themed PAR-Té! Fact… I wore jeans under my dress and a jumper over it on the way there, then stripped off in the foyer of said friends’ building before making my entrance. Husband was very embarrassed by my rogue antics.
Our friends Hannah and Eddie outdid themselves by turning their apartment into a 1920s wonderland of style and flair! Here are just a few of the amazing ways they did it…
A simple, yet stunning way to set the theme. A gorgeous gold frame sits front and center on the drinks table.
Nothing screams 1920s more than lead crystal tumblers.
No peacocks were harmed in the making of this centerpiece. But a couple of swans may have been embossed in gold. (For those interested, the lights you see through the windows are of the new World Trade Centre).
Tealight candles, gold table cloths and metallic decorative stars made for gorgeous table decorations.
Nothing can beat a simple vase of white roses. Heaven.
I love this idea! Everyone had so much fun reflecting on the year that was, and of the dreams to come for 2014!
Perhaps the biggest hit of the party was the red carpet backdrop Hannah and Eddie stuck to the wall. Made for awesome paparazzi shots!
Special thanks so the hosts with the mosts – Hannah and Eddie!
Happy New Year everyone! I hope 2014 is full of love, laughs and happiness.
